Tortuga has a series of "World Gates", portals between the worlds that allow for instant travel. However, every time one of these gates is used, it tears a wormhole in space-time, that subsequently closes and begins to heal. The healing of a wormhole is a slow process. However, the sheer number of wormholes being created is causing serious damage to some of the worlds, and is depositing dangerous fauna of various universes in populated areas.
